Meeting with the Myanmar community

Yesterday it was a privilege to meet with leaders from the United Myanmar Community of South Australia and Dr Tun Aung Shwe of the National Unity Government. The group provided Jing Lee MLC and I with an insightful update about the current situation in Myanmar. Myanmar, one of the poorest countries in the region, is in an ongoing period of crisis since the 2021 military coup. Australia has been a steadfast supporter of Myanmar’s transition to democracy and a market-led economy. Australia has been working with the international community to reiterate its call on the military to halt violence against civilians and return the country to the path of democracy. The Liberal Party in South Australia will continue to work with our federal colleagues to ensure Australia remains resolute in our support for all those working peacefully towards an inclusive and democratic future for the people of Myanmar.
