Good news for SA Museum campaign

Our Save the South Australian Museum campaign got some encouraging news today.

The proposed restructure’s been put on hold and a review has been announced to look at the Malinauskas Labor Government’s proposed cuts to the museum.

Cuts that would see 27 positions in the museum’s Research and Collections division terminated and replaced with 22 more junior, curatorial positions. The cuts also put a number of galleries under threat, including the popular animal displays and the Egyptian room.

While the review is a welcome step, the fight isn’t over yet, we haven’t had any commitments from Peter Malinauskas that he will protect the museum.

We will continue to stand side by side with the community and fight for the future of the museum as we don’t want to see the cuts simply paused but abolished all together.
