Flinders Island wildlife haven

Friday 21 August 2020

Great news for our environment! A wildlife haven will be established on Flinders Island off the coast of Elliston on the Eyre Peninsula.

Fast facts:

  • Protecting around 3,400 hectares of land (about the size of 6,000 football fields!)
  • Enabling the protection of existing birdlife
  • Allowing for the introduction of endangered mammal species - including 2 types of bandicoot!
  • Eradicating invasive species
  • Developing a nature-based tourism destination.

This is thanks to joint funding from the state and federal governments and is excellent news for our environment. I’ll keep you updated as plans progress!
