Calling for a dedicated Brain Tumour Support Coordinator
Sunday 28 May 2023
Today I met with Chloe and her son Duke. They lost husband and dad Dave to an aggressive brain tumour in July last year. We’re backing in calls from families like these, and brain tumour patients, neurosurgeons, and researchers by calling on the Malinauskas Labor Government to fund a Brain Tumour Support Coordinator.
We’re currently the only state in Australia without a dedicated resource.
This coordinator would provide practical and emotional support – including assistance with applying to the NDIS and Centrelink, coordinating access to clinical trials, and assistance with palliative care services well before they’re needed. Around 300 South Australians are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year and this resource would make a huge difference in helping patients and families through this challenging time.
