Breaking news: huge funding boost for the Coorong!
Thursday 13 December 2018
I’ve just returned from Melbourne where I’ve been negotiating with the federal and state water ministers around the Murray Darling Basin. It’s been tricky and hard fought but we’ve landed a range of measures that will deliver funding for critical water efficiency projects which will contribute towards the vital 450 gigalitres which is needed to keep this river system alive.
Our package includes:
✅ $70 million for projects to Improve the health of the Coorong ✅ funding to undertake a study into turning on Adelaide’s desalination plant as an environmental measure (with no financial impact on SA Water customers) ✅ a set of clear criteria mapping a way forward for projects across the basin.
We’ll always vigilantly fight for the Murray, but today’s outcomes show the benefit of being at the table and negotiating for our river.
